Practical Management of Visual Impairment
A one-day course for those working with adults and children with low vision focusing on the practical management of visual impairment.
So often our visually impaired patients are poorly managed within optical practice. Our series of
interactive presentations and discussion workshops are designed to encourage practitioners to manage
our elderly patients more successfully.
We begin with a review of current UK population demographics and how the future of optical practice is
changing. Providing a more comprehensive, cost effective service to our ageing population is fast
becoming an essential aspect of our duty of care towards those with an impairment of their vision.
Through interactive seminars and hands on discussion workshops, delegates will have the opportunity to
review the generic attributes and unique design features of a wide range of low vision devices that may
be dispensed at practice level. Devices will include a diverse range of hand and stand magnifiers,
spectacle mounted and hands free solutions. A review of telescopes and the growing market of electrical
systems will also be discussed.
For those patients requiring more complex devices or additional social services assistance, a review of
current hospital LVA provision and the pathways for certification and registration will be outlined,
together with a discussion on rehabilitation services and the benefits of registration.
Target audience: The course is open to all healthcare and associated professionals working within the low vision sector, including:
